The Jury of the 1st Open Spaces – Rudnik Festival of Innovative Cinema, consisting of Kumjana Novakova, Tea Lukač and Goran Dević, has decided to give awards to the following films:
“ZAPIS” AWARD FOR THE BEST FILM – SOME KIND OF INTIMACY by Toby Bull
Jury motivation: For a touching miniature that morphs physical spaces into metaphorical ones, offering layers of meaning to otherwise quiet and overlooked spaces, as well as for the humorous yet raw contemplation about dealing with loss, the jury awards the main festival prize “Zapis” to the film “Some Kind of Intimacy” by Toby Bull.
SPECIAL MENTION 1 – TELLURIAN DRAMA by Riar Rizaldi
Jury motivation: For managing to find a particular cinematic device to bring together interdependent processes, histories and subjectivities, as well as for its particular approach to the collective and the personal that develops an almost physical experience of colonisation, both past and present, the jury gives a Special Mention to “Tellurian Drama” by Riar Rizaldi.
SPECIAL MENTION 2 – THE FANTASTIC by Maija Blåfield
Jury motivation: A Special Mention is awarded to the film „The Fantastic“ by Maija Blåfield which has succeeded, through personal, seemingly apolitical testimonies of people’s first viewing experiences of Western films in North Korea, in creating a filmically effective depiction of a closed off, totalitarian world.
